Modelling Dorian's Face
Took a while but it was well worth the wait, he definitely looks like his picture now >D
Any who onto the nose!
(Note to self don't skip anything otherwise you'll miss things looking perfect)
I may take a little longer than I wished on modelling the characters because I had to go back a few tutorials but from now on it should be quicker!
Modelling Dorian's face again
I must admit its starting to look more like him..
I have got a little bit more to do (like make that chin longer, but in due time~)
Dorian Office Update
Following a talk with Phill discussing the logic driving our environment design, which resulted in the decision to deliberately re-appropriate set-pieces from the noir films that would inspire Dorian's idealism, I've been working on Dorian's office.
Here are some key reference images I've been using...
I'm being thorough in generating turn arounds for each major prop, figuring the more worked out in 2D, the less work in 3D. Here's the ones done so far...

Modelling Dorian's Shirt Pt 2
Originally I was going to add in some more creases to the lower front to give it a pinch, however now I'm wondering if I should leave that the texturing....
Modelling Dorian's Shirt
I think the shirts coming along pretty well (its is practically done) just adding the tie then voila :D

Moral Boost
Character modelling here we come :D
Useful Website for you Jono!
Andriana showed me a website where you can find the blueprint for cars so you should be able to find that taxi you were looking at (which should also make it easier for you to manipulate it to!)

2D to CG Awareness
After speaking to Alan one problem ws made clear that had not been thought of till we were given "the green light" and that was the eyes.
We were given various ideas and were told it now comes down to trial and error and that the eyes will either "make or break our trailer".
We can either go for:
-The new TinTin where the eyes are now realistic
- Warner Bros sculptures i.e. Batman flat eyes that go round
Possible ideas:
Andrianna gave us a good idea which was to
.use a normal eye
.make the white part transparent
.make the iris black
.make a plane behind tht is skin coloured

@ Lyn-Dae - Text for Thurs Meeting
Anything else you need Dae?
What If...
...a flawed detective shattered his own imagined, idealist world by allowing his muse to be murdered due to his own corrupt negligence.
Choice of Genre and Approach
- Inspired by our postmodern lectures, we wanted to create a self-reflexive piece, something to explore the idea of metafiction with in film.
- Choosing the 'Film Noir' genre gave us a set of already well established preconceptions and stereotypes to be deconstructed.
- Having our protagonist as a flawed detective who aspires to be like the 1940s classic hard-boiled detectives allowed us to create a character who was a once both self-aware and utterly deluded.
- Taking a 'one foot in the past, one foot in the future' approach meant we could criticise the superfluous nature of today's culture, defined by individuals. What if an individual defined his world based on an obsession with the 'ideal' past, blind to his own corrupt morals.
Trailer Synopsis
- While at work, Detective Dorian Dayle sees Mave, a beautiful and mysteriouswoman, cross the street.
- Then while at a café, Dorian sees her once again, walking past the window.
- STATIC SHOT – Mave’s face, beaten and bleeding – STATIC
- While catching a cab in the rain, Dorian bumps into Mave, who asks to sharehis cab. He happily obliges.
- As Dorian and Mave are talking, their cab suddenly screeches to a halt. Thedriver, Sammy, knocks Dorian out cold and abducts Mave.
- Coming to, Dorian finds the driver and Mave gone. He sets out to find her.
- STATIC SHOT – A bloodied room, with Mave's body crumpled on the floor – STATIC
- Dorian accosts Sammy in an alley way and discovers the location of Mave.
- Mave is discovered. As Dorian struggles to free her, the signal appears to begin to break up.
- It is exposed that the audience have been watching a trailer on tv, that the real Dorian is watching.
- He is rung by Sammy, and confirms a deal to allow their crime to go ahead.

UPDATE - Jono's Daylies 31/10/11 - 01/11/11
This post will contain the combined work of yesterday and today.
At the moment I'm focusing on Dorian's Office, since it's the most personal of the sets. It has to be the most cliche, typifying noir detectives office possible; slit blinds, solid desk, drinks and mess.
Here are a few sources of inspiration:
The style is drawn from Lyn-Dae work, bold lines and forms with finer detail within. Dorian imagines himself as a straight, upright figure of the law, as such his office reflects that, being full of square, straight shapes and lines. However, the concentric shapes and mess show flaws and cracks within this vision.
